Where a Dream Took Its First Steps

Long before websites, social media, and digital streaming, I dreamed of creating a young vocal group that could inspire audiences through original music, energy, and unforgettable performances.

In 1992, I began holding auditions throughout Los Angeles, inviting parents to bring their children in hopes of discovering the perfect group. Many talented kids auditionedβ€”some had great voices, others had incredible personalitiesβ€”but none quite matched the vision I had in my mind.

Determined to find the right combination, I attended local talent shows, searching for young performers with both talent and stage presence. Along the way, I met two gifted brothers, Demario and Ricky Thornton. I began working with them, teaching vocal techniques and helping develop their musical abilities. Before forming the group, however, I knew I still needed two more voices to complete what I envisioned.

Then I heard about two young brothers named Joseph and Joshua.

After speaking with their mother, I visited their home. One by one, the boys sang for me. I remember listening carefully, and before they had even finished, I knew I had found exactly what I had been searching for.

"These are the ones."

From that moment on, we got to work.

Over the next year, I wrote original songs, organized rehearsals, developed choreography, assembled backup dancers, designed the group's logo, created promotional merchandise, and began shaping an identity for what would become SkculBoiz.

In 1993, the group performed its first live show. The audience responded with incredible enthusiasm, confirming that all of the hard work had been worthwhile.

Not long afterward, the project attracted interest from Capitol Records, and discussions began about touring opportunities. Although circumstances ultimately led the family to choose a different path for the boys, the experience remains one of the most exciting and rewarding chapters of my early songwriting career.

Today, the music, photographs, original logo, promotional merchandise, and songs like "Curfew" serve as lasting reminders of a dream that helped shape the songwriter and producer I would become.

Every project teaches us something. SkculBoiz taught me how to build an artist from the ground upβ€”how to recognize talent, develop performers, create a brand, and bring original music to life. Those lessons continue to influence my work today through D-World Entertainment and my ever-growing catalog of original songs.

Thank you, Joseph and Joshua, for being part of a journey I'll never forget.
